Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT WE DO AND WHERE WE WORK
What is unique about Henrybuilt’s work?
Henrybuilt’s approach is distinguished by three core elements that shape the client experience:
  1. Proprietary functional tools and components that are part of a holistic system, which has been continually improved over 25 years.
  2. Highly skilled designers who develop a unique outcome for each client.
  3. Outstanding material and craft quality backed by a lifetime warranty against defects.

How is Henrybuilt’s offering different from a cabinetmaker’s?
Henrybuilt is focused on creating a superlative user experience, both during the design process and throughout the life of the product. In the kitchen, for example, this means focusing on how the space feels and functions during cooking, serving, cleaning, and socializing, and developing an integrated system of tools and unique functional components that elevate those everyday experiences.

Does Henrybuilt only design and make kitchen systems?
No. Henrybuilt is an award-winning designer and maker of integrated product systems for kitchens, dressing rooms, and other important spaces throughout the home. While these product systems include cabinetry and millwork, they extend far beyond what cabinetmakers offer, including products of Henrybuilt’s own design that are both aesthetically and functionally distinctive. About 65% of our projects involve more than a kitchen.

Where does Henrybuilt work?
From our studios and showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle, Henrybuilt works with clients in every U.S. state, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Oceania, and parts of Asia.

Where are Henrybuilt’s products made?
Every Henrybuilt project is made-to-order in our production facility in Seattle, Washington, and delivered to clients’ homes using our proprietary returnable container system.

How long has Henrybuilt been in business?
Henrybuilt has been in business since 2001, focusing on combining superlative quality, architecturally integrated design, and a unique functional system to create an exceptional client experience.

Is the Henrybuilt system modular?
No. The Henrybuilt system is not modular. Each project is designed and made to order, and is precisely fit and positioned in relation to each home’s architecture, to the 1/8 inch.

How custom is Henrybuilt?
Henrybuilt is highly custom in terms of the design, feel, fit, and overall individuality of each project. Every project is designed and made to order, as well as fit and positioned in relation to each home’s architecture to the 1/8 inch.

Does Henrybuilt sell standalone products?
Yes, we offer standalone products for wardrobes, dressing rooms, bathrooms, and other spaces through our Primary Objects line, as well as functional wall panels and integrated doors via our Opencase system.

Does Henrybuilt provide countertops and appliances?
During the design process, we recommend appliances but do not sell them. We provide countertops in solid surface acrylic, PaperStone, and wood. For stone or stainless steel worksurfaces, we provide detail drawings to manufacturers but do not supply those materials directly, except in certain cases with Primary Objects islands.
PRICING AND INVESTMENT
How much does a Henrybuilt kitchen system typically cost?
Henrybuilt kitchens typically start around $80,000, with most projects ranging from $100,000 and $150,000 depending on scope and scale. Pricing includes design services, proprietary functional components, hardware and pulls, integrated lighting, installation support, and system setup at move-in.

Thoughtfully designed smaller kitchens can begin under $75,000, while particularly large kitchens may range from $150,000 to $200,000 or more. Regardless of scale, we begin by understanding your project in sufficient detail to ensure alignment with your budget and goals. We then enter into a contract and proceed with the design phase.

What is included in the price of a Henrybuilt kitchen system?
Unlike conventional cabinet or millwork companies, Henrybuilt pricing includes a specialized design service, proprietary tool-holding and drawer organization systems, integrated lighting, installation preparation and support, and post-move-in setup of the functional system to ensure it is tailored to your needs. All cabinet units arrive fully built, with drawers installed and pulls mounted. Every system is backed by a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and making.

How does Henrybuilt’s pricing compare to top-tier custom cabinetmakers?
Henrybuilt’s pricing is typically on par with the best custom cabinetmakers, but more is included in our price. This includes our design service, which gives us greater ability to control budget and execution for the client, as well as our unique functional tools, which improve the everyday user experience.

How does Henrybuilt’s pricing compare to top-tier European systems?
Henrybuilt’s pricing is generally in line with top-tier European systems such as Boffi and Bulthaup.
PROCESS AND WHEN TO START WITH HENRYBUILT
How early in a project should I bring Henrybuilt on?
As soon as you know you are undertaking a project—particularly a kitchen—it is helpful to begin a conversation to discuss schedule, budget, and goals. Even in ground-up construction, we often begin design work prior to permitting, collaborating with homeowners and architects to refine what will ultimately be submitted.

Engaging Henrybuilt early in a new build or renovation allows for more effective cost control and enables collaborative refinements to layout that improve both functional flow and overall aesthetic outcome.

Do I need to have drawings to reach out to Henrybuilt about a project?
No. We often begin projects from scratch based on your goals and basic information about your home, then develop the design collaboratively with you over time. We frequently work in the same way with architects and designers.

If I start early with Henrybuilt, how do you establish a price?
Henrybuilt develops an initial model scenario based on an in-depth conversation, and sometimes early sketches or schematic drawings. Based on that, we determine pricing and decide together whether to move forward. If so, we continue refining the design in alignment with your budget and goals.

How does Henrybuilt’s design process work?
Each Henrybuilt client works directly with an architecturally trained designer on our team. That designer collaborates with the client—and the architect or design team if applicable—through planning, design development, and finalization to create a uniquely tailored outcome. The client signs off on the final design before it goes into production. The process is collaborative and scheduled to meet the needs of your project.
INSTALLATION AND POST MOVE-IN
How long does a Henrybuilt project take?
Shorter-timeline projects take 8–10 months from start of design, though a small percentage are completed in less time. Our Space Theory line offers a faster alternative. Most projects that are being carefully integrated into a significant remodel or new build take 12–18 months from start of design.

How does Henrybuilt handle installation?
Henrybuilt’s Field Experts manage installation preparation and provide support either to an installer that is part of our network of partners or to the client’s general contractor.

Does Henrybuilt’s product come with a warranty?
Yes. Every project is backed by an investment-grade lifetime warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship for as long as you own your home.

How does Henrybuilt support clients after move-in?
A designer or Field Expert from our team confirms that installation has been completed to our standards. Upon move-in, your designer will meet with you to help set up the functional tools in your kitchen based on the design and your usage patterns.

We also offer a tune-up service in areas near our showrooms, and our Field Experts and design team members remain available to clients as needed. As we add tools and accessories to our product line, we notify clients so they can add to their system if they choose.
