From Bank Vault to Chic Apartment

A 100-year-old Italian High Renaissance–style bank building. A new developer condo. A young family. And an immovable bank vault to boot.

To marry these elements, the clients engaged architect Elizabeth Roberts. She transformed the developer apartment into a home that reflected the owners’ personalities and the building’s refined exterior.

As part of the effort to elevate the interior to a new level of sophistication, not just in how it looked, but how it worked, the team collaborated with Henrybuilt.

Roberts is known for her ability to design spaces that are at once livable, elegant, and eclectic, while tying past and present in a uniquely balanced manner.

Henrybuilt’s flexible design and products supported that goal. Lighthearted ingredients, from the round pulls to the step-down of the wall units and the play of light and dark, blend with a luxurious feel to humanize the kitchen while maintaining a high level of refinement.

The kitchen is warmed by materials like brass, which patinas with touch.

The flexibility of Henrybuilt’s system was also put to work in navigating structural challenges of the original bank vault.

Like the items tucked away in the vault, it’s what you can’t see in the kitchen that provides the greatest value—the functional tools hidden inside.

It’s the ease of how it works, feels, and supports the way the clients cook, clean, and socialize, down to where the kids go to grab their favorite snacks.
