The Casual Modernist
A Minimalist Kitchen Renovation with Cuppett Kilpatrick Architects
“The kitchen adapts to my life, my things, and the way I work rather than the other way around. From the quality of construction – I can place a heavy pan where I want it - to the movable organization pieces inside, it supports my needs. It’s hard to explain the impact of not worrying about whether it will work or not.”

The challenge: to turn an existing modernist home into a more expressive reflection of life on the shores of Lake Austin. An orientation that is not only about function, but also emphasizes playing, entertaining, and taking advantage of the space, the light, and the views.

The kitchen was the focal point of the project. It sits at the crux of the home and facilitates the clients’ love of cooking, hosting, and acting as the hub for their extended family. Tailored to seamlessly integrate into the modernist stance of Cuppett Kilpatrick’s design, Henrybuilt’s kitchen system reflects the principles of function and minimal visual adornment. Yet it’s anything but cold and sterile with luxury level craft and materials that add warmth and tactility. Behind the quiet exterior sits a high-performance system designed to take on the specific tasks and activities that take place in every kitchen.

The result: A kitchen that supports rather that steals the show. A finely tuned workshop and ideal socializing space – one with a feel of permanence – that enables the clients to focus on what they enjoy most.
