Soul of place. You know it when you feel it. And, feel it you do in this warehouse-turned-loft in a landmarked building at the heart of New York’s Tribeca neighborhood.

What was the alchemy, the magic-making, that brought spirit to this space?
Was it the reverence for its history?

For the clients, intrepid New Yorkers, retaining vestiges of New York City's rich industrial past was important. The Turett Collaborative, architects of the renovation, respected the industrial history of the building, while creating a uniquely modern yet warm and inviting home. Henrybuilt joined the team to bring expertise in marrying that design intent with a touch of hand and a functionality to enhance how the space is experienced.
Materials were intrinsic to the surroundings: blackened steel, oak, and plaster.

“Henrybuilt’s design is exceptional. On top of that, their attention to material touch, quality, and how it is expressed is something we can’t find elsewhere,” says architect Jim Saisakorn. “The material gets to be what it wants to be.”
The marriage of elegance and functionalism. Of craft and innovation.

“Henrybuilt is like a Swiss Army Knife. Innovative functionality wrapped in a beautiful and precise package of rich materiality” says Saisakorn.
Was it the ethos of the clients?

Subtle not showy. Warm not flashy. A focus on health and wellness that pushed for a nourishing environment. Creating a spirit of place that complemented and enriched not only their lives, but also their work and their community. A place with which people connect.
The kitchen and pantry is a do-it-all space that supports day-to-day family life, a start-up nutrition-centric business, and entertainment of friends and colleagues.
Henrybuilt’s flexible backsplash system supports the daytime work enterprise. At night, it tucks onto the wall accommodating evening entertaining and cocktail making.
FUNCTIONAL BACKSPLASH
Our optional backsplash system ties together the counter and what’s above. It makes the wall functional in a flexible way.
Henrybuilt’s system approach sparks connection, uniting surrounding elements in a way that anticipates current and future needs. From the feel of leather pulls that promote a spirit of calm during the dressing experience, to the tailored order of a pantry that confers a sense of order and the freedom to focus on what matters.
Was it the holistic approach, the connection of all the moving parts?

Henrybuilt was the through line, creating not only graceful transitions between the public space and the utilitarian kitchen and pantry, to the private spaces beyond, but also an ease of moving between tasks. “Henrybuilt was the spine - the armature supporting the function throughout out the space,” says Saisakorn.
The grown-up’s wardrobe optimized every nook and cranny. The solution is anything but generic, combining luxurious materials with practical but dynamic storage solutions that offer forever flexibility and a sense of play.
DRESSING WELL
Welcoming to walk into, beautiful to wake up to, a graceful space for dressing – designed to meet your specific needs.
Henrybuilt’s Opencase panels allowed the beautiful wardrobe walls to take on specific function, in effect reaching out to meet and interact with the people living in the space. The tactile leather pouches layer a luxurious feel onto their utilitarian purpose.
Henrybuilt’s Opencase system adds distinction to a space, and enlivens a room, enabling you to adapt it to your changing needs - or whims.

It can be used in small ways, or comprehensively, as here, to create a dressing space where everything is visible, and in which all components can be easily moved around if you decide you want to rearrange.
What was the soul-making magic?
The synergy of it all.
