A Remote Cabin with Lake Flato
A discerning couple chose an unconventional site on the side of a lake in rural Mississippi to create a compact family getaway. Veterans of building and renovating homes, they sought out the best partners – deciding upon Texas-based Lake Flato and Seattle-based Henrybuilt – both teams experienced in working remotely.

Lake Flato, known for a unique ability to create architecture rooted in a particular place and reflective of the sophistication of those living in it, was a natural choice to design the building. Henrybuilt worked primarily directly with the owners to achieve their goals while honoring the direction Lake Flato had set with the architecture.

Exemplifying the idea of ‘fewer, better things’ the main floor of the cabin is only 1100 square feet and includes a connected kitchen, dining and living space. A bathroom and primary bedroom round out the floor.

There was careful consideration of what is open, what is closed, using the storage and functional efficiency of the Henrybuilt system to fulfill needs while doing as little as possible - in a way that will stand the test of time.
